Elephant Butte and White Sands

We decided to get away for the weekend and went to Southern New Mexico. Here we are at Elephant Butte Reservoir. We stopped for an hour and let Alex play in the sand and get his feet a little wet. He especially liked skipping rocks in the water with his Daddy.

Here we are at White Sands National Monument. We had a great time. It looked like snow, and felt like brown sugar. The sand dunes are made of Gypsum which always dissolves in water and the only reason it is possible to have Gypsum sand dunes is because of the lack of rain in the area. We enjoyed sledding and building sand castles in the White sand.

Looks like fun! We need to get out and be more adventureous in our own back yard. There are so many things here in utah that I haven't seen. We just never take the opportunity. I think I need to make it a goal... thanks for the inpiration! I hope all is well with you and your family.
